In many organisations, human resources is often seen as the department responsible for hiring people, handling policies, and managing employee matters. But for Henry Akubuiro, the work goes much deeper. His career has been built around a different understanding of what people management can achieve when it is connected directly to business performance.
With more than 12 years of progressive experience, Henry has developed a career focused on solving organisational challenges through people, processes, data, and strategy. Today, he is a Senior Human Resources Consultant, Learning and Development expert, HR expert, Process Optimization expert, and Workflow Efficiency Specialist. His work centres on helping organisations improve the way they operate while creating environments where people can perform, develop, and contribute meaningfully to business goals.
What makes his professional journey particularly interesting is the breadth of experience behind his current expertise. His career has moved through customer service, marketing, accounting, finance and operations, human resources, performance management, talent acquisition, and organisational leadership. Each stage has added another perspective to the way he approaches workplace challenges.
Rather than viewing people and business operations as separate parts of an organisation, Henry has built his career around connecting them. His experience shows a consistent focus on identifying inefficiencies, developing better systems, strengthening workforce capability, and turning organisational challenges into opportunities for improvement.
His current role as Senior Human Resources Consultant at HCER Consulting Ltd reflects this approach. Since 2024, Henry has worked on developing an integrated operational model that brings HR, Finance, and Administrative functions together. The goal has been to eliminate workflow inefficiencies and create a more seamless service framework that strengthens organisational effectiveness.
His responsibilities have also included introducing structured governance and coordination protocols across departments. These systems were designed to support consistent decision making and operational continuity, including during periods of leadership transition. As Acting Office Manager, he has partnered with senior management to translate strategic directives into practical action, ensuring that day to day activities remain aligned with wider corporate objectives.
But his work in performance management reveals another important part of his professional philosophy: organisations cannot improve what they cannot properly measure.
Between 2023 and 2024, Henry designed and deployed a KPI driven performance monitoring system that provided real time visibility into employee and operational performance. By creating a clearer view of performance, the system supported data led decisions aimed at improving productivity and business efficiency.
He also developed a skills gap diagnostic approach to identify capability deficits early. Rather than waiting for performance problems to become bigger organisational issues, the approach helped identify areas where employees needed additional development and supported the creation of targeted training programmes.
For Henry, performance management is therefore not simply about measuring employees. It is about understanding what the organisation needs, identifying what may be standing in the way, and creating practical interventions that help both employees and the business move forward.
That same approach was evident during his time as Performance Manager at Hole19 Group. There, he developed and implemented another KPI based performance monitoring system, providing real time insights into employee and operational performance. The information generated through the system supported data driven decisions aimed at improving productivity and efficiency.
His experience has also taken him into the fast moving technology sector. At Possible Group Ltd, where he served as Head of Human Resources from May 2024 to January 2025, Henry was responsible for developing an HR strategy that addressed the talent and cultural challenges of a high growth electric vehicle and technology company. His work focused on creating an environment built around innovation, accountability, and sustained performance.
One of the challenges he tackled was talent acquisition in a competitive technology market. Henry designed an end to end recruitment framework focused on attracting, assessing, and securing professionals for specialised roles. He also developed employee engagement and culture initiatives aimed at addressing retention risks and improving motivation and job satisfaction.
His responsibilities extended to performance management, employee relations, workforce planning, organisational design, and succession planning. Working alongside executive leadership, he helped address structural growth challenges through workforce frameworks designed with scalability in mind.
Interestingly, Henry’s professional experience has not always been confined to the HR department.
At St. Luke’s Hospital, Asaba, he served as both HR Manager and Acting Maintenance Manager. His HR responsibilities involved reimagining the Human Capital function as a strategic business driver, with a focus on building a skilled, engaged, and mission aligned workforce that supported the organisation’s patient centred objectives.
He also designed and implemented HR policies, procedures, and processes to address inconsistencies and establish clearer operational standards. Through talent development and performance management solutions, he worked to connect individual employee growth with longer term business goals while promoting continuous improvement across the workforce.
His role as Acting Maintenance Manager added another dimension to his leadership experience. He was responsible for structured maintenance procedures, facility inspections, repair and installation work, maintenance staff coordination, equipment availability, procurement, budgeting, vendor performance, records, and compliance with health and safety standards.
This combination of people management and operational responsibility is significant because it demonstrates Henry’s ability to work beyond a single professional function. His career has repeatedly placed him in positions where understanding how different parts of an organisation work together has been essential.
Before becoming deeply established in HR, Henry spent several years working in accounting and finance. At AG TRADE SERVICES LTD, he served as both Human Resources Consultant and Accountant. His HR responsibilities included streamlining processes across the employee lifecycle, hiring for capability and alignment with business goals, building skills that addressed real business challenges, and focusing on measurable outcomes and accountability.
His accounting experience involved financial oversight, transaction analysis, customer and consumer relationships, market development, product positioning, and route to market strategies. This background provides an important part of the story behind his approach to HR. His understanding of financial and commercial functions gives him another lens through which to view people related decisions and organisational performance.
That blend of HR, finance, and operations was also evident during his time as Finance and Operations Manager at Genius Business School. There, Henry redesigned operational systems, processes, and policies from the ground up, addressing information flow challenges and improving business efficiency and organisational performance.
He also integrated HR and Finance support functions into a more cohesive operational unit, creating stronger communication between operational and programme teams. His work included overhauling financial operations and internal controls to address accountability and compliance challenges while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Earlier in his career, Henry gained experience in banking at First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. He worked as a Customer Services Officer, where he handled customer inquiries, complaints, and requests while providing financial solutions and supporting customer relationships. He also maintained accuracy in account openings, deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and payments while working within banking regulations and internal policies.
His first banking role as a Service Executive involved processing transactions, educating customers about financial products and services, maintaining records, balancing cash drawers, handling confidential information, and following financial and security procedures.
Henry’s early professional experience also included marketing. At Alba Bello Trading Company, he progressed from Marketing Executive to Team Lead, Marketing Executive. His responsibilities included developing strategies for digital, advertising, communications, and creative teams, managing departmental budgets, monitoring team goals, handling customer relationships, and supporting information dissemination.
Looking across his career, there is a clear progression from frontline customer service and marketing to finance, operations, human resources, performance management, and senior consulting. Each experience has contributed to a professional profile that is not limited to one area of expertise.
Education has also been an important part of that development. Henry holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from Atlantic International University, which he completed between 2021 and 2022. He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Bayero University, an HND in Public Administration from Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, and a National Diploma in Mass Communication from the same institution.
His professional credentials include the Senior Professional in Human Resources, International designation, alongside certifications and recognition in areas including cybersecurity for HR professionals, management, marketing, and soft skills. He was also recognised as Best Customer Service Officer in 2013.
Today, Henry Akubuiro’s story reflects a career built around one recurring idea: better organisations are built when people, processes, and performance work together. From customer service and marketing to accounting, operations and senior HR leadership, his experiences have continually expanded his understanding of how organisations function and how they can become better.
His journey is not simply a story about moving from one job title to another. It is a story about developing a wider perspective with every stage, learning how customers think, understanding financial operations, managing processes, developing people, measuring performance, and eventually bringing these experiences together to solve complex organisational challenges.
For professionals looking to build meaningful careers, Henry’s journey offers a valuable example of what can happen when different areas of expertise are allowed to complement one another. His career demonstrates that professional growth does not always follow a straight line. Sometimes, the experiences that appear unrelated at first become the very experiences that make a professional more effective later.
Today, as a Senior Human Resources Consultant and an expert in process optimisation, workflow efficiency, and data driven decision making, Henry continues to focus on turning people strategies into measurable organisational outcomes. His story is ultimately about more than HR. It is about understanding how organisations work, identifying what needs to change, and building the systems and people strategies required to make that change possible.
