His professional journey reflects remarkable progression through a series of increasingly responsible roles, beginning as a Staff Assistant in 2009 and advancing through Experienced Staff Assistant, Semi Senior Advisor, Senior Advisor, Manager, Senior Manager, and ultimately Associate Director. This steady progression speaks to years of dedication, consistent performance, and the confidence the organization has placed in his abilities.
Throughout his career at KPMG Nigeria, Bukunmi has worked with teams responsible for delivering world-class, value-adding business support services. His expertise spans immigration advisory and compliance services, alongside administrative and business support services that include accommodation surveys, cost of living surveys, and country briefings. These responsibilities have enabled him to support organizations in navigating complex immigration requirements while helping them focus on their broader business objectives.
Having garnered more than ten years of professional experience in business advisory projects, Bukunmi has delivered value-adding solutions using industry-leading practices across a broad range of sectors. His advisory experience includes working with organizations in aviation, oil and gas, power, telecommunications, e-commerce, banking, information technology, construction, and advertising. Exposure to such a diverse range of industries has strengthened his understanding of the varying needs of businesses operating in different sectors.
Immigration advisories have remained at the heart of his professional expertise. Over the years, Bukunmi has managed the immigration portfolio for a wide range of clients with a combined expatriate population of more than 400. His responsibilities have included providing advisory opinions on immigration matters, working with relevant regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with immigration requirements, and delivering services that consistently meet client expectations.
Alongside his client responsibilities, Bukunmi has also contributed to developing people within the organization. As a member of the Learning and Development Group of the People Services Unit, he has supported the development of technical training materials and coordinated technical training programs focused on managing expatriate and immigration issues in Nigeria. This role demonstrates his commitment to sharing knowledge and strengthening professional capabilities within his team.
Earlier in his career, Bukunmi gained valuable practical experience while supporting several client engagements simultaneously as an experienced staff assistant. His work involved advising clients on immigration-related matters; coordinating expatriate quota monthly returns; following the progress of client applications with immigration offices across Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja; preparing invoices; and supporting the timely recovery of receivables. He also participated in a food survey project where he collected the cost of selected groceries and food items in Port Harcourt, assisted with data collation, and worked with the project manager during the analysis that contributed to the final project report.
His foundation in immigration advisory was established during his early years as a staff assistant at KPMG Nigeria. During this period, he worked as part of a professional team providing immigration advisory services to organizations, helping clients remain focused on their core business activities. His responsibilities included preparing and processing reentry visas, residence permit renewals, temporary work permits, deletion from expatriate quota requests, compiling expatriate monthly and temporary work permit returns, following up on outstanding residence permit renewal requests, and preparing periodic status reports on clients’ requests with the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Before joining KPMG Nigeria, Bukunmi completed his National Youth Service Corps program at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria in Kaduna, where he served as a reporter. During this time, he produced news reports and stories for the Network Nigeria program, proofread and edited news items for broadcast, and collected, collated, and edited interview inserts for reports aired on the network service. He also completed an internship with Touchstone Limited in Lagos, adding another valuable dimension to his early professional experience.
Bukunmi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Obafemi Awolowo University. He also earned a Certificate in Basic Computer Skills from Microgold Computer College and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria. In addition, he holds the “Leading with Vision” certification, reflecting his commitment to continuous professional development.
